Attendance and Absence Reporting

Working Together to Improve Attendance

The majority of students attend every school session throughout the academic year, yet overall attendance rates are not always as high as they should be. If young people are to achieve their potential, good attendance and punctuality are critical. The link between attendance and achievement is well documented. Irregular attendance has a significant impact on student achievement as they fall behind with their work and lose out on friendships. Parents have a legal duty to make sure that their child attends school regularly.

If your son/daughter is going to be absent from school, please inform the school before 8:30am, either by using MCAS (My Child at School App), emailing attendance@lincroft.academy or leaving a message on the absence line.

The ‘My Child at School’ app is our preferred option as your child’s name and form are completed automatically on the information, we receive from you as you are already logged in to the website.

By email to attendance@lincroft.academy  Please state the student’s name and form group, your relationship to the student, a brief outline of the illness or other reason for absence and when you expect them to return.

By telephone on 01234 822147 and select option 1 for student absence. A message can be left on the voicemail with your child’s name and form, the reason they are absent and when you expect them to return to school.

Please also use one of the above options to advise the attendance team of any medical/dental appointments students may need to attend.  Students will need to provide their medical letter for the absence team to verify their absence.

All other term time absence will need to be requested at least three weeks before the student is due to be absent. Please use the link to the term time absence request form below.

Please note: Students must attend their house office before leaving for appointments. Students must then make their way to reception where a member of staff will sign them out upon collection by a parent/carer. Please can all parent/carers collect students from reception. All students that arrive to school after the beginning of the school day must be signed in by a member of staff at reception.

For safeguarding reasons, we cannot allow students off site without prior notification either by phone, email or handwritten note from a parent/carer.

Please note, there is no reason for your child to be absent from school for any of the minor ailments listed below. Our attendance officers may ask for more information if these reasons are given and will not authorise the absence if they are not satisfied.

  • Generally unwell, poorly, fatigue/feeling tired
  • Sore throat
  • Period pains
  • Headaches
  • Absence as a result of orthodontic adjustments
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Hay fever
  • Head lice
