Work Experience & Unifrog

At Lincroft Academy, all students in Year 10 are required to undertake a work experience placement for one week in July. We encourage students to participate in this for many different reasons:

  • It will develop their understanding of what it is like to be in the workplace
  • It will provide an insight into the world of work and the expectations of employers
  • It will add to the students’ understanding as to how their curriculum subjects can link to certain jobs
  • It will enable them to develop and practice new skills which can be highlighted on any future application for further study or jobs

This year, Year 10 students will be expected to take part in our Work Experience programme from Monday 30th June to Friday 4th July 2025.
In order for students to gain the valuable job-hunting skills which are so important in today’s job market, we ask that all students take responsibility for planning and finding their own placements. However, if families are particularly concerned about this process, please get in touch with Mrs Ripley (jripley@lincroft.academy). Communication to students and parents/carers are sent in January to ensure enough notice is given to be able to source a placement in good time.

Suitable placements could be:

  • Office work
  • Retail
  • Large and small companies
  • School, if different to their current school

Unsuitable placements could be:

  • Hazardous and dangerous jobs or environments: eg building sites, somewhere with toxic chemicals
  • Some medical situations or counselling jobs which might not be appropriate
  • Age restricted establishments such as pubs
  • Placements where a pupil will be working alone with one supervisor

Employers

It is important that employers conducting work experience comply with certain criteria.

This includes:

  • Health & Safety
  • Employers Liability Insurance (ELI)
  • Public Liability Insurance (PLI)

Our UNIFROG placement tool will check the relevant criteria to confirm suitability.

Unifrog – www.unifrog.co.uk

Unifrog is a careers platform which brings resources, advice, information as well as UK-based apprenticeships, university and college courses into one place.

Work experience placements are managed via the Unifrog placements tool by students using their individual login.

Unifrog will collect information from the employer about their Risk Assessment and Health & Safety policy, as well as getting agreement from families for the placement to go ahead. Students should start researching companies and asking family and friends if they know any employers that could take them on for the week. Students should contact a variety of companies and then agree a placement with one.

Unifrog have created a set of guides about placements which can be found on their website, please click here to view them. The resources include a ‘How To’, the legal details explained, guides for students, guides for employers, FAQs and how to communicate online safely and professionally.
